WSIS Prizes 2019 Champion Projects announced

ITU has just announced 90 Champions of the WSIS Prizes contest. From the announced 90, 18 projects will be selected to be Winners will be awarded for each of the 18 categories of the WSIS prizes.
The submission phase opened on the 2nd of July 2018 to the 5th of December 2018 and 1,149 submissions were received (of which 1062 were found exceptional and were nominated for the WSIS Prizes 2019).
Champion Projects under Action Line C7 E-agriculture
The Action Line C7 (E-agriculture) is jointly facilitated by Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the International Telecommunications Union (ITU).
There were five projects selected as champions.
Baktiku Negeriku
Baktiku Negeriku is a CSR program by Telkomsel to the rural communities. This program is manifested in assisting and empowering communities to improve the people’s quality of life in various regions in Indonesia. More info
Combatting Food Insecurity Through Remote Sensing
This project is aimed at combating food security by smart farming through the implementation of remote sensing technology by observing and analyzing the factors that affect plant growth. More info
e-Agriculture ,, Partnership for Community Development and SDGs Achievement
Gedaref Digital City (GDCO) is civil society Organization in Sudan. GDCO was founded and supported with more than 750 computers by Eindhoven Digital City (DSE) and many ICT projects were developed. More info

About WSIS Prizes
According to ITU, "WSIS Prizes is a unique international contest developed in response to requests from the WSIS stakeholders to create an effective mechanism to evaluate and recognize individuals, governments, civil society, local, regional and international agencies, research institutions and private-sector companies for outstanding success in implementing development oriented strategies that leverage the power of ICTs as an enabler of the development.
The WSIS Prizes contest is an integral part of the WSIS stocktaking process; set up in 2004 to assist WSIS implementation and follow-up. The contest was held for the first time in 2012, and rapidly gained attention and popularity within the ICT for Development (ICT4D) community". Source : WSIS
